MidfielderMidfielder Michael Farfan, twin brother of teammate Gabriel, was selected by the Union from the University of North Carolina as the 23rd overall selection in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft. Farfan emerged as one of the top rookies in his class, finishing third in Rookie of the Year voting. In 2012, Farfan was selected to represent the Union in Major League Soccer's All-Star Game at PPL Park.
2012: Played in 32 games starting in 31 logging 2802 minutes. He established himself as a fixture in the Union’s starting lineup in his second season with the team. He led the Union in assists with 5 on the season. He scored the game winning goal in the Union’s first victory over the Galaxy in LA on July 4. Selected to the MLS All-Star team. He entered the game as a sub, replacing David Beckham, against UEFA Champions League Champions Chelsea in PPL Park.
