MidfielderThe Philadelphia Union acquired winger Walter Restrepo from New York Cosmos for an undisclosed transfer fee on Jan. 12, 2016. Was a two-time NASL Best XI selection (2012 and 2014).
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
2016 (Union): Restrepo earned his first start for the Union in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup game against the Harrisburg city Islanders. He scored the game’s first goal and his first of the season. This performance helped him make his MLS debut in a game against NYCFC, coming on as a second half substitute. He has since appeared as a sub in two more MLS games. He recorded his first MLS assist in the loss against Montreal Impact.
2016 (Steel FC): He has been loaned out to the USL affiliates six times this season. He has performed very well, and has even recorded an assist on the season.
2015 (New York Cosmos): Appeared in 29 games and started 24 for a total of 2,151 minutes. Restrepo scored three goals and added five assists.
2014 (San Antonio Scorpions): Restrepo was named to the NASL Best XI for the second time after recording three goals and four assists in 25 games for the San Antonio Scorpions.
2013 (Fort Lauderdale Strikers): After returning from injury, Restrepo finished with two goals in 19 appearances. He started 11 games.
2012 (Fort Lauderdale Strikers): Restrepo had a standout 2012 campaign, leading NASL with eight assists and adding six goals en route to an NASL Best XI selection. He tore his ACL on Aug. 15, ending his season.
2011 (Fort Lauderdale Strikers): Signed midway through the year on July 11. Made 12 appearances and scored two goals with one assist.
PERSONAL
Restrepo, 27, was born in San Diego, Calif., but holds dual-national citizenship with Colombia. He played there professionally from 2006-11 before joining the Fort Lauderdale Strikers on July 11, 2011.
