Busy at both ends

Sheanon Williams did it at both ends of the field on Saturday afternoon.

Philadelphia's right back came up big, scoring a second half equalizer and denying a dangerous Toronto through ball - just seven minutes apart.

It was enough to earn the Union a 1-1 road draw despite a relatively poor performance.

"I thought that before the game we had a plan and we really didn’t execute in the first half," Williams said. "They had really good intensity and they came at us pretty good. In the second half I thought there was a huge change, I think that we had a little more of the ball and we did a little bit more of what we wanted to do. We weren’t happy that it took us 45 minutes to get to that point but I thought the guys did a good job of battling hard and to come away with a result."

Williams' goal was his second in MLS, and it was facilitated by three second half substitutes.

It began with a Roger Torres' free kick in the 84th minute. Torres was able to collect his rebound and square a pass for Chandler Hoffman. Hoffman picked out Antoine Hoppenot on the right wing, and Williams got on the end of a low driven cross to tie the game.

"It was kind of a free-kick opportunity," explained Williams. "The ball got bounced around and we played it out to the other side. Antoine made a good run down the side and I just went where the ball was. It went through a couple of bodies and off my foot and into the goal."

Williams was the second most active player on the field on Saturday, credited with 116 events on the OPTA Chalkboard. (http://www.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter/2012-09-15-tor-v-phi/chalkboard) The right back recorded 2 interceptions, 4 clearances, 2 blocked crosses, and 5 recoveries.

"(Coach Hackworth) let us have it like he should have," said Williams. "We didn’t play well in the first half and we know that. He didn’t need to say much for us to know that we didn’t play the way we are capable of playing.

"In the second half it had to be different and I think we did that. Even at the end we thought that we could steal the game. I think we have to be happy about the second half performance and that the turnaround was a lot better than the first half."
