With both Philadelphia Union and Bethlehem Steel FC opening preseason training in Clearwater, Florida, numerous players are getting opportunities to showcase their talents under the sun.
With several homegrown talents taking part in the Union's opening preseason scrimmage against New York Red Bulls on Wednesday afternoon, current Union Academy player Cole Turner was called upon to participate in the contest. A versatile player, Turner was called upon to play center back with first-team regulars Auston Trusty and Mark McKenzie away with the United States Men's National Team.
Turner played the entire second half of the contest, making a timely tackle to snub out an NYRB chance while also sparking the Union's attack on the eventual game-winning goal. The Union resume preseason scrimmages on February 2 at 7 p.m. when they face the University of South Florida. Check out the team's full preseason schedule here.
