The Philadelphia Union are pleased to announce that the hometown hero for Saturday night's match against Atlanta United will be Major Heidi Commins.
Major Commins played division I soccer at Lafayette College, where she prepared for medical school. After completing medical school at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, she entered into the Air Force as a flight surgeon.
During her active duty, she was a part of the C-130 and A-10 squadrons and was deployed to Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom.
During her service in the Air Force she also managed to keep up with her love of soccer, playing for the US Women’s Air Force team as well as two seasons in the WPSL. She now works as an Emergency Room physician and proudly serves in the Pennsylvania Air National Guard as a flight surgeon for the 103rd Attack Squadron at Horsham Air Base.
