Cameroon remains in contention to advance to the 2022 FIFA World Cup Round of 16 after picking up a point against Serbia on Monday. Philadelphia Union defender Olivier Mbaizo is with the Indomitable Lions and while he has yet to feature in Qatar, he might be called upon to see out a victory if results break their way.
According to FiveThirtyEight, Cameroon are a major underdog with just a 2% chance to advance to the next round as they take on Brazil who have already qualified for the next round. FiveThirtyEight gives Switzerland 67% chance to finish runners up in the group with their group G finale opponent Serbia having a 30% chance.
Below is the scenario that'll see Mbaizo and Cameroon advance:
- Cameroon defeat Brazil AND Serbia/Switzerland draw
- Cameroon defeat Brazil by 2 or more goals AND Serbia defeat Switzerland with a margin one less than Cameroon's margin of victory
Cameroon battles the World Cup favorites on Friday with kick off set for 2PM on both FOX and Telemundo.
