Philadelphia Union announced today that Jose Martinez has received an international call-up for Venezuela ahead of the upcoming FIFA international window. The midfielder is part of eight call-ups in September which include Andre Blake (Jamaica), Daniel Gazdag (Hungary), Olivier Mbaizo (Cameroon) in addition to Paxten Aaronson, Jack McGlynn, Quinn Sullivan, and Brandan Craig receiving call ups to the U-20 USMNT.
Martinez joins the Venezuelan National Team for two international friendlies. Martinez, who has a total of 18 caps for La Vinotinto, recorded his first assist for the national team in a 1-1 draw against Ecuador on June 20, 2021. In his most recent call up, Martinez featured in two international friendly matches against Malta (Jun. 1, 2022) and Saudi Arabia (Jun. 9, 2022). Venezuela will play against Iceland (Sep. 22, 12:00 p.m.) and United Arab Emirates (Sep. 27, 1:00 p.m.).
