Acquired by the Philadelphia Union on Jan. 15, 2014 from Argentinos Juniors (Primera Division) after a return from Atlante of the Mexican League. Maidana appeared in five matches for Juniors, logging 137 minutes.
- Maidana has spent most of professional career in Argentina but also spent some time playing for Spartak Moscow of the Russian Premier League. His international flair is apparent on the field as he plays his position like a true number “10.”
- He has started 10 of the 12 games he has appeared in and is tied for the team lead in assists with 2. In addition, Maidana is second on the team in shots on goal and has found the back of the net once this season.
- Maidana is threat to distribute whenever the ball is at his feet. Known for his field awareness, he has the ability to make plays happen around him, seeing two or three steps ahead of the opposition.
Star Moment this Year: In a 2-1 defeat of defending champions Sporting Kansas City, Maidana scored the game winner with a fabulous curling strike around an onrushing Sporting defender and the keeper as well. Maidana’s fortitude in front of net was the contributing factor to the Union securing the victory on that night.
