On this day back in 2013, Philadelphia Union announced that the club has acquired FIFA World-Cup Champion Kléberson on loan from Esporte Clube Bahia.
Kleberson joined the club as a Designated Player and brought his extensive success from the international level to the Boys in Blue that featured Brazil’s winning teams in the 2002 FIFA World Cup, 2004 Copa América and 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup, while also being selected to the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
The Brazilian's most memorable moment as a member of the Union came on October 10, 2013 against Toronto FC. With the match scoreless and time winding down, Kleberson delivered one of the most memorable free kicks in club history with this 95th minute winner.
While Kleberson only spent one season with the Union, the two sides reunited in 2017 with the Brazilian joining Philadelphia Union Academy as a head coach of the U-12s where he remains today. He recently spoke with Eoin O'Callaghan of The Athletic about his playing time and his current role of raising the next generation of U.S. Soccer talent
