Matthew hails from Preston, England, and brings a wealth of experience to the Union. For over a decade, Matthew devoted his time to working within PA West ODP and NCAA DI Women's Soccer. Additionally, he has held key organizational leadership positions in Toledo, Ohio. Matthew’s extensive experience spans across different levels, genders, and age groups within the sport, and he is currently pursuing his UEFA A license, further solidifying his expertise.

In his career, Matthew has demonstrated a strong ability to oversee and guide multiple coaches while also maintain a sharp focus on long-term player development. His commitment to the sport extends beyond the field, as he has also played a pivotal role in building and maintaining positive relationships with youth organizations and associations. This holistic approach to soccer management ensures that Matthew not only enhances the technical aspects of the game but also fosters a supportive and collaborative environment for all involved.

We're Hiring

Philadelphia Union Youth is looking to adding new staff to our excellent team of coaches. With this New Era underway, we have been reviewing how we can bridge the gap and increase connectivity between ourselves and our partner clubs.

We are looking for positive staff and role models to work with young people in a grassroots club environment, teaching the fundamentals and inspiring a love of the game.

Position / Role:

  • This role would be a part-time position with us as a W2 employee.
  • The coaching position would be primarily within our Affiliate Club network and Grassroot level programs.

Days / Hours:

  • Traditionally our Affiliate clubs will practice in the evenings, Monday through Thursday anytime between the hours of 5pm - 9pm, plus weekend coaching is available typically 9am - 1pm.
  • We have plug-and-play model so you can work as much or as little as you like, however, if you choose to work a set day, you will be expected to work that day every week for the duration of the program and be 100% committed to the cause.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of a Grassroots License online AND 1 in-person Grassroots License (or to have already booked onto a course)
  • D License and above preferred
  • Clean Background Checks and SafeSport
  • Driving License and access to a vehicle

Selected applicants - Interview Process:

  • Virtual meeting via Zoom or Microsoft Teams
  • The candidate will provide a 15-minute video of them coaching in their current environment
  • The candidate will be invited into the club to deliver a session with our players
  • From this in-person interview, a decision will be made on the next steps.
