Facing off against their biggest rivals Philadelphia Union Academy emerged victorious in both contests against New York Red Bulls on Saturday.
The U17âs continued to look strong for the start of their season and did so once this weekend. Jackson Gilman opened the scoring with great awareness knocking in a deflected shot in the box in the first half to give the Union a 1-0 lead at the break. Red Bulls tied the game up in the early in the second half of action but the Union were able to pull out a victory. Gael Medrano found the back of the net late in the game after catching the Red Bulls keeper out of position. This would prove to be the game winner putting the Union firmly atop the table of the MLS Next Mid-Atlantic division.
Moving down one age group the U15 had a very similar outing to the U17 squad, taking home a 1-0 victory over the New York Red Bulls. Though Henry Bernstein was the lone goal scorer on the day, this tough fought battle that really showed that the team as a whole was the star.
Both sides continue MLS NEXT action on Saturday, October 17th with road contests at D.C. United.
