Olivier Mbaizo Receives International Call-Up for Cameroon
Mbaizo joins squad ahead of Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers
CHESTER, Pa. (March 22, 2021) – Philadelphia Union today announced that Olivier Mbaizo has received international call-up from the Cameroon Men’s National Team ahead of the upcoming FIFA international window.
Mbaizo’s call-up is one of two this international window with Jamiro Monteiro joining the Cape Verde Men’s National Team. The defender was instrumental in the Union’s run to their first ever Supporters’ Shield, has been called up ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers where the teammates will face one another.
This is Mbaizo's third senior team call up for Cameroon as they also head into their final two games of the qualification group stage of Africa Cup of Nations 2021. Cameroon will face Cape Verde on March 26 and Rwanda on March 30. He has earned three senior international caps for the Indomitable Lions, his first when he made his debut as a substitute in a friendly vs. Gabon on September 6, 2016 and most recently for the team’s last pair of Africa Cup of Nations matches. Cameroon saw Mozambique twice for their third and fourth matches of the group stage, both ending in victories.
Mbaizo departed from Clearwater, Florida on March 21.
