Union’s Jose Riasco quickly answered with his first MLS NEXT Pro goal in the 35th minute off a Paxten Aaronson assist to tie the game at halftime. In the 43rd minute midfielder Paxten Aaronson scored off a header from the center of the box to the bottom right corner, he was assisted by Jesus Bueno. Miami’s Lawson Sunderland was assisted by David Ruiz as he scored off a deflected shot to the top right corner in the 76th minute. After drawing even through 90 minutes of play, the match was decided in a shootout with kicks from the penalty spot. Goalkeeper Matt Freese had two saves to guide the Union to a 5-4 penalty shootout win.
