Philadelphia Union II continued play in MLS NEXT Pro with a 1(3)-1(0) draw against Chicago Fire FC II on Sunday afternoon at Subaru Park. Frank Westfield recorded his first career assist on Nelson Pierreās goal and Matt Freese recorded three shootout saves to help secure two points for Union II.
In the first half, Philadelphia outshot Chicago four to two, despite Chicago controlling possession through the opening 45 minutes. Union II forward Nelson Pierre scored in the 29th minute on a header from the center of the box to the top right corner, assisted by Frank Westfield on a cross.
Chicago Fire FC II opened the second half with a goal by midfielder Omari Glasgow in the 49th minute to even the score at 1-1. After drawing even through 90 minutes of play, the match was decided in a shootout with kicks from the penalty spot. Matt Freese recorded three saves in the shootout, and Union II scored on all shootout opportunities to earn an additional point.
