The Philadelphia Union II squad lost a tough battle at Subaru Park on Sunday night against Chicago Fire II.
The matchup featured aggressive offensive attacks from both sides – Chicago Fire II totaled five goals by the end of the game and Union II scored two.
The action began with an early effort to create a lead from Union II with three attempts in the first six minutes, but the team had little success. Instead, it was Chicago Fire II who found the back of the net first. In the 18th minute, Chicago’s Noah Egan nailed a sailing through ball to Alex Monis, receiving it at the top of the box where he shot past Union II keeper Brooks Thompson.
The remainder of the first half was scoreless, but the lull didn’t last but two minutes into the second. Chicago’s Victor Bezerra crossed the ball to the center of the box where Sergio Oregel soon arrived to tap it past Thompson, opening the second half with a 47th minute goal for his team.
The Union fired back with a 54th minute goal from Luciano Sanchez following a graceful pass across the box from CJ Olney through defenders. The score marked Sanchez's second career MLS NEXT Pro goal.
Despite the Union’s determination to decrease their opponents lead, Chicago Fire II was not shaken and quickly scored three goals within 16 minutes, including a penalty goal converted by Victor Bezerra.
Another impressive CJ Olney cross set up a final goal for the Union – Boubacar Diallo headed the ball from the center of the box for his first of the season.
Union II was unable to overcome Chicago’s three goal lead. With the loss, their record becomes 4-8-3.
Philadelphia Union II will be on the road on Wednesday, June 28 (7:00 p.m. ET) to play Orlando City B at Osceola Heritage Park.
