Philadelphia Union II faced off against New England Revolution II, falling 5-1 on Monday afternoon at Gillette Stadium.
In the first half, both sides came out with attacking mindsets, and Union II goalkeeper Brooks Thompson made a great save in a one-on-one situation against New England forward Jordan Adebayo-Smith to keep the score level in the seventh minute.
Forward Stefan Stojanovic buried an early penalty kick to put Union II up in the 10th minute, after forward Nelson Pierre was taken down by midfielder Joshua Bolma in the box. New England responded in the 21st minute when forward Damian Rivera fired home a shot to level the score at 1-1.
New England took the lead in the 29th minute when defender Jacob Akanyirige found forward Jordan Adebayo-Smith who scored to put Revolution II up 2-1. Union II searched for the equalizer late in the second half with forwards Jose Riasco and Jeremy Rafanello both coming close to finding the equalizer.
In the second half, New England doubled their lead coming out of the halftime break, when midfielder Esmir Bajraktarevic scored from long range in the 49th minute. Malcolm Fry would score New England’s fourth goal in the 54th minute, and midfielder Brandonn Bueno scored from the spot in the 89th minute to extend the lead to 5-1 and secure all three points for Revolution II.
Philadelphia Union II will travel to SeatGeek Stadium on Sunday, April 16 (7:00 p.m. ET / MLSNEXTPro.com) to play Chicago Fire FC II.
