Philadelphia Union II will be back on the pitch after more than a week's break, taking on Orlando City B in Florida on Wednesday night. Don't miss the next generation of Union players take on Chicago Fire II, tune in to MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
The team is recharged and refreshed after the break after taking just one win after during their three-game homestand. With MLS NEXT Cup Playoffs underway, the squad was a bit shorthanded against Chicago Fire II but got goals from Luciano Sanchez and Boubacar Diallo but fell by a 5-2 margin.
Wednesday's opponent comes in fifth in the conference, holding a 7-5-2 record. The two teams haven’t met since the opening match of the 2023 MLS NEXT Pro season; Orlando City B won that match 3-1 thanks to goals from defender Abdi Salim, forward Cristofer Acuña, and forward Moises Tablante.
Orlando City B has had a favorable season so far with just two losses, both occurring on their home field. Their top offensive threat is 23-year-old forward Jack Lynn, who’s scored seven goals in 13 games played. Behind him, 18-year-old defender Alexander Freeman has totaled three goals and two assists over 12 games.
Similarly to the Union, Orlando City B recently suffered a loss against Chicago Fire II and also had a bit of a break themselves without play this past weekend.
Both teams will enter the contest with fresh legs, and with the return of a handful academy players that were away competing in the U-17 MLS NEXT Cup, the Union’s roster will be fortified.
