Philadelphia Union Academy U14s and U13s walked away with blistering victories over the weekend in a pair of contests against PDA.

The U13 squad controlled their match right from kick off keeping the ball in the attacking half for most of the game. Cavan Sullivan provided the only goal of the first half off of a cannon from outside the box to beat PDA’s keeper. Another one of the usual suspects on this U13 team, Gunnar Graham, was able to convert after winning a scramble in the box. Cavan Sullivan completed the brace on the day beating the keeper charging at him in transition in the 60th minute. Pedro Guimaraes notched his own goal when he beat the keeper from outside the box in the 71st minute of play. Pedro’s goal proved to be the final goal of the day leading to the 4-0 victory for the Union.

The U14’s ran away early in their match scoring four goals in the first 29 minutes on their way to a 6-0 victory. It was truly a team effort controlling possession and limiting any chances on the defensive end of the pitch. Offensively the group saw four different goal scorers with Gabriel Wesseh, Andrew Craig, and Stefan Chirilla all converting once while Kellan LeBlanc notched a hat trick on the day.

Both the U13 and U14 squads have a busy weekend of MLS NEXT again they begin with road TSF Academy on Saturday November 7th followed by home matches against Cedar Stars Monmouth Academy on Sunday, November 8th at YSC.

The Philadelphia Union Academy returned to play in the Acela U12 league facing off against the New York Red Bulls. The Union raced out to score three goals in the first 15 minutes of action leading to a 4-2 lead heading into the half. The Red Bulls did not go away quietly though and trudged back to even the score up 4-4 late in the second half of the game. Luke Stienes and Declan Lannon both netted a brace in the match, including Lannon curving the ball into the far corner off of a turnover in the offensive end. The match provided a great competition for the boys who showed off their press well, and if not for a couple of unfortunate late goals they would have walked away victorious.

The U12’s will look to come away with a win in their rematch on the road against the New York Red Bulls this Saturday November 7th.
