Philadelphia Union Academy’s youth sides went a perfect 3-0 in their respective league action as they knocked off SYC Soccer at the U14 and U13 level while the U12s downed FC Delco.
The U13s maintained their lead amongst the MLS NEXT Mid-Atlantic division over the weekend with a resounding 5-0 victory. Playing well in possession and maintaining a high line of pressure, the Union came out strong and built up a resounding lead. Jamir Johnson, Gabriel Wessah, Peter Doran, Gunnar Graham and Jordan Griffith all notched goals in the win.
The U14s too knocked off SYC Soccer on the road with Kellen LeBlanc leading the way with a brace and Annise Saidi adding a third for a 3-1 win. After a slow start due to the long drive to Northern Virginia, the Boys in Blue shook off the heavy legs and took control with a 2-0 halftime lead. The tempo increased and so did the action with SYC looking only to counter attack after long stretches of defense. The tactic resulted in a pair of penalty kicks for the opposition but Gavin Atkinson was strong in net to save one.
The U12s pushed their winning streak to seven with a 6-3 win over FC Delco’s white squad. The winning streak looked in jeopardy as the Boys in Blue found themselves down 2-1 at the break but the side responded well and took control over the final half. Willyam Ferriera led the way with two goals early in the half to put the Union ahead for good. Declan Lannon, Andrew Yang, Luke Steins also added goals in the win with the Union’s sixth goal coming via a FC Delco own goal.
