On Friday, Chase Fieldhouse in Wilmington, Delaware announced that Philadelphia Union Academy Coach Kevin Coleman would become its new Technical Director for Sporting Delaware. Coleman took on numerous coaching roles with the Union, including head coach of the U-19s team and an assistant coach with Union 2 and, previously, Bethlehem Steel.
“Kevin Coleman has been with us since his time in Union Juniors,” Union Academy Director Tommy Wilson said. “He has proven to be an invaluable member of staff throughout that time and has a real talent for coaching.
“I am delighted for Kevin and upset for the Union at the same time because we are losing a gifted coach. But he is progressing in his career and I know Kevin will be a great ally to myself and the club moving forward.”
Coleman’s time with the Union dates back to 2013, and he was the head coach of four different age levels at the academy, beginning with the U12s. Additionally, he joined Brendan Burke’s staff with Bethlehem Steel/Union 2 when taking over the U-19s in 2018. The ability to connect with players at any age level and communicate clear, precise information helped Coleman succeed at each role he took at the academy.
The Union have often used Chase Fieldhouse during preseason training, so the team will likely be reunited with the new Technical Director soon.
