Philadelphia Union Academy’s U17 squad saw a tight contest over the weekend, battling Bethesda SC to a draw in MLS NEXT action on Saturday.
The U17 faced a battle from start to finish against Bethesda as both sides battled for the opening goal which broke to the visitors in the first minute of play. The Union battled back with Ian Abbey netting a first-half brace including a bicycle kick goal late in the half. Bethesda ended the half on a high note scoring once more before the whistle blew to put the teams on an even playing field for the final 45. Bethesda pressed early in the second half leading to a third goal in the 48th minute. Marcelo Mazzola converted a penalty to tie the score up 3-3 which is where it would stay until the final whistle blew.
