The 2018 Generation adidas Cup kicks back up tomorrow for the Union, as Union Academy Director Tommy Wilson is excited to see what his boys can do.
Wilson was pleased to see his squad prevail in the first leg this past fall and was delighted to see his team handle the pressure of being home.
“We hosted the first leg which makes it an added pressure when you’re playing at home, not everyone can handle that,” Wilson said.
The Union Academy director believes the results his club is getting this year have been better than last season’s GA Cup results. He also cited how well his team played in 2016, when they made it to the final game.
“I think our results have been better this year than last year,” Wilson said. “Although we did have a very good run two years ago when Jeff Cook was in charge of one of the teams that went all the way to the final.”
Wilson feels the boys have been exceptional so far, and the style of play for them has been truly brilliant.
“The boys have represented us brilliantly with a lot of style and flair and just good results,” Wilson said.
When asked how they’ll do, Wilson obviously can’t predict how the games will go. However, Wilson can bet that his team will play with passion and desire.
“Obviously you can’t guarantee a result,” Wilson said. “But I can guarantee they are going to play with the same amount of passion, energy, and desire to succeed and to play a similar style that’s reflected right across the club.”
Through four matches the Union Academy sits at the top of the table in the 2018 GA Cup East Region Standings with a record of 2-0-2 and nine points with a goal differential of plus six.
The Union Academy resumes Generation Adidas Cup action tomorrow Feb. 17 against D.C. United Academy at 10 a.m. in Atlanta, Georgia.
