The up-and-coming stars of Philadelphia Union Academy will be on display this weekend as the U-17s and U-15s head west for the final three qualifying matches of the 2020 Generation adidas Cup.
Regional qualifying features MLS teams split across three different groups (A, B, C). The first qualifying matches in each group took place over Columbus Day weekend and conclude this President's Day weekend. There are no draws in the tournament so each win is worth 3 points and a PK shootout win is worth 2 points. A loss in the shootout will net a club a single point.
The U-17's enter the final three contest sitting in second place in Group C after taking two victories in the opening legs held at the Power Training Complex last fall. The Boys in Blue will face off against Inter Miami CF (Feb. 14, 1:30 p.m. ET), D.C. United (Feb. 15, 1:30 p.m. ET) and rival New York Red Bulls (Feb. 17, 1 p.m. ET). The top two teams from each group advance to play in Division 1 of the 2020 Generation adidas Cup Finals held at the Toyota Soccer Center in Frisco, Texas. Teams in third and fourth place in each group will play in Division 2 while the remaining clubs will square off in Division 3.
Meanwhile the U-15 Union Academy squad looks to fight it's way into the top spot on the competition after claiming four points their first three matches. The U-15s begin the final leg against Inter Miami CF at 3 p.m. ET on Friday, February 14th followed the next day with a 3 p.m. ET kick off against D.C. United. The final match of tournament sees the Boys in Blue battle New York Red Bulls on Monday, February 17th at 3 p.m. ET. Unlike the U-17 format, only the top team in each group advances to the Final Event in which the clubs will compete in an 8-team international challenge.
