Army-Navy Cup XII delivers goals and pageantry in 1-1 draw

2023 Army Navy Cup | 4

For just the fourth time in Army-Navy Cup history the match ended in a draw with both teams playing to a 1-1 draw in Army-Navy Cup XII presented by Leidos on Friday night at Subaru Park.

Navy senior David Jackson opened the scoring in the seventh minute of play, heading home a pass from fellow senior Jason Aoyama. After a failed clearance on an Army free kick in the 14th minute, Cooper Warren nearly tied the game when his shot went off the outside of the left post. It did not take the Black Knights long to capitalize on its offensive push though, as Gage Lyons had a rebound come to him in the six-yard box off another Army free kick in the 25th minute.

Navy goalkeeper Pierce Holbrook was busy in net during the second half as he racked up nine saves to set a school record for the most stops in the history of the series by a Midshipmen.
