Monday was another day of rest and reflection around Union HQ with the look ahead to Saturday’s match against Columbus. For the players, it was a day away from formal training although strength and conditioning coach Kevin Miller suggested a cardio workout that involved running hills and doing sprint work.
Speaking of Miller, catch his weekly blog “Goal Oriented,” beginning this week on philadelphiaunion.com. Miller will share his thoughts each week on training, nutrition, exercise and life with the team over the course of a 10-month MLS season. We read the first installment and yes, it’s great stuff.
While the players were working on their fitness, manager John Hackworth, technical director Rob Vartughian and assistant coach Jim Curtin along with defenders Sheanon Williams and Raymon Gaddis took part in the Lets Move Easter Egg Hunt at the White House in Washington, D.C. today. For Gaddis, judging by some great pictures he posted via Instagram it looked as if the day also provided an opportunity to meet a pair of NFL athletes in San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Anquan Boldin and Minnesota Vikings halfback Adrian Peterson.
Earlier Monday afternoon, Gaddis posted via Twitter:
This is the second year the Union took part in the annual event.
Moving on…
When practice resumes tomorrow it will be the first for newly acquired Brazilian midfielder Kleberson. Kleberson, 33, got a first look at his new team on Saturday against the New York Red Bulls, taking in the match from suite level. Kleberson will wear No. 19 for the Philadelphia Union and will be the main attraction Wednesday night during a special meet and greet at na’Brasa Brazilian steakhouse in Horsham (680 N. Easton Rd.) from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
In other news…
Former U.S. women's National Team defender and newly minted Union sideline reporter Heather Mitts is the featured guest on Tuesday night’s “The 90th Minute” radio show airing live from Chickies and Pete’s in Northeast Philadelphia from 6:00-7:00 p.m. The show, sponsored by Farmers Insurance is hosted by Carl Cherkin with co-hosts Chris Albright and yours truly. Mitts will be available for autographs after the show and there are $10 pizza and crab fry specials, so hope to see you out tomorrow night.
Which is never a bad thing…catch you all tomorrow.
