Philadelphia Union announced the club will host Patriot Night on Saturday, July 9, featuring a fireworks display immediately following the conclusion of the match against D.C. United. The match, presented by Talen Energy, will be televised live on 6abc with a half-hour pre-game show to begin at 6:30 p.m. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
“Patriot Night will honor some of America’s true heroes and reflect our commitment to our servicemen and women,” Union Chief Business Officer Tim McDermott said. “We look forward to putting on a spectacular show for everyone in attendance.”
Before the match, interactive military assets, including vehicles, and exercise and strength evaluation equipment, along with active Army and Navy personnel, will be deployed along Toyota Plaza. Prior to the match, members of the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy Mid-Atlantic recruiting staffs, as well as local first responders, will unfurl a 30’ x 60’ American Flag for the singing of the national anthem. It will be sung by Ron Brooks, an honorary member of the U.S. Navy SEALs. Then, approximately 10 minutes following the conclusion of the match with D.C. United, the fireworks show will commence along the Delaware, at the River End of Talen Energy Stadium.
Following the fireworks show, the Union will host their annual U Camp Out night, presented by ACME. Activities will include a movie on the stadium video board that night, morning warm-up with a member of the Philadelphia Union Technical Staff, and continental breakfast. Tickets are still available by visiting PhiladelphiaUnion.com/Ucampout.
The Union return to action on Wednesday, June 29 for the Round of 16 in the 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The Union will host New York Red Bulls at Talen Energy Stadium, marking the second consecutive season the rivals will meet in the knockout tournament. The Union won at Red Bull Arena last year in the quarterfinals, 1-1 (4-3), in a game that was ultimately decided in penalties.
