Former Philadelphia Union midfielder Chris Pontius announced Tuesday morning that he was hanging up his books and retiring from professional soccer after an 11 year career in Major League Soccer.
After spending his first seven years down I95 at DC United, Pontius joined the Boys in Blue ahead of the 2016 season and had a season that Union fans won't forget. In his best single season of his career, Pontius bagged a career-high 12 goals and added six assists in leading the Union to the postseason. He followed up the stellar season with a six more assists and a pair of goals in his final year with Philadelphia Union.
