Philadelphia Union are pleased to announce that the hometown hero for Saturday afternoon's match against Montreal Impact is Staff Sergeant Matthew Langford.
Staff Sergeant Langford first joined the Navy in 1999 and for five years he served active duty as a hospital corpsman. In 2002, he was deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Staff Sergeant Langford then joined the Pennsylvania Air National Guard as an aerospace medical technician in 2016. Currently, he is stationed with the 103rd attack squadron at the Horsham Air Guard station located in Horsham, Pennsylvania.
For his services, he has received many awards such as the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Unit Citation, Nato/Kosovo medal, Iraqi Freedom Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.
