Developing young talent is a pillar of Philadelphia Union’s philosophy, and the club’s steadfast commitment has proved fruitful once again as Jack McGlynn has been recognized in the MLS 22 Under 22 presented by BODYARMOR.
The 20-year-old homegrown midfielder makes the list for the second consecutive year, this time landing at No. 7 in the rankings. In his third MLS regular season, McGlynn appeared in 26 games, tallying 14 starts for the Boys in Blue. Through 1540 minutes played, he totaled two goals and two assists while cementing himself as one of the team’s most powerful passers. His unique left-foot ability paired with his sharp soccer mind made him the team’s leader in accurate passes, completing 874 out of 1019 attempts for a 85.8% success rate.
McGlynn’s momentous year followed an outstanding 2022 postseason, where he helped propel Philadelphia Union through the playoffs, eventually becoming the third youngest player in league history to start in an MLS Cup final.
Since his debut in 2021, McGlynn has made great strides forward, building a robust resume including a playoff penalty kick goal against Nashville in 2021, a golazo free kick against Houston Dynamo for his first MLS goal, and two scores in 2023 against Eastern Conference teams that lifted his squad to a win and a draw.
In addition to his contributions in Philadelphia, McGlynn has impressed on the international stage, consistently being called upon to represent the United States. In May, he was part of a Philadelphia Union trio that played with the U-20 USMNT at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup, and most recently, he was selected to participate in the U-23 USMNT training camp in preparation for next year’s Summer Olympic Games in Paris.
