CHESTER, Pa. (September 8, 2023) – Philadelphia Union II announced today that they have signed Philadelphia Union Academy forward Sal Olivas to an MLS NEXT Pro professional contract. He will be added to Union II’s active roster immediately.
“We’re excited to welcome Sal to the club and to see him take this next step in his career,” said Philadelphia Union II Head Coach, Marlon LeBlanc. “We always recognize the importance of an academy signing and the proof of concept it brings from developing within. Sal's performance in the GA Cup showcased his talent and potential, and we look forward to strengthening his skill set.”
Olivas, 17, becomes the club’s fourth academy player to be signed to an MLS NEXT Pro professional contract. Olivas played a key role in the Philadelphia Union U17s’2023 Generations adidas Cup win in Bradenton, Florida, scoring in the semifinals to secure a spot in the final against FC Dallas. Following the 2023 Generations adidas Cup triumph, Olivas was called up to Mexico’s U17 Men's Youth National Team, playing in a friendly against the U18 squad of Pumas on August 5, 2023.
