Philadelphia Union Receive $500,000 in Allocation Money, International Roster Spot from Columbus Crew SC

Union trade forward David Accam to Columbus in exchange for $400,000 General Allocation Money, $100,000 Targeted Allocation Money and international roster spot

CHESTER, Pa. (May 8, 2019) – Philadelphia Union announced today that the club has traded forward David Accam to Columbus Crew SC in exchange for $400,000 of General Allocation Money, $100,000 of Targeted Allocation Money and an international roster spot. The international roster spot is for the duration of the 2019 season, while the allocation money will convey in 2020. The trade was completed prior to the close of the primary transfer window on May 7, 2019.

“This is a decision that we believe is best for the future of the Philadelphia Union in terms of our roster planning in both the short- and mid-term, as well as for David,” said Ernst Tanner, Union Sporting Director. “We receive valuable roster flexibility in this deal, both with the international roster spot as well as the allocation money for future transactions. We have our eye on the summer transfer window and beyond and we are confident in our current roster to make this transaction now.”

Accam has appeared in 31 games (17 starts) for the Union over one-and-a-half seasons, scoring five goals and adding two assists. He was originally acquired from the Chicago Fire in a trade during the 2018 MLS SuperDraft after spending three years with the Men in Red.

TRANSACTION: Philadelphia Union trade forward David Accam to Columbus Crew SC in exchange for $400,000 in 2020 General Allocation Money, $100,000 in 2020 Targeted Allocation Money, and a 2019 international roster spot on May 7, 2019.
