The Philadelphia Union have signed midfielder Cole Missimo, the club announced Tuesday. Missimo was selected with the No. 64 overall selection in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft and will become the fifth member of the draft class to join the Union.
“We have really been encouraged by the young class we have assembled this offseason and Cole is an important piece to that,” Philadelphia Union Sporting Director Earnie Stewart said. “He will provide the kind of depth on the wing that we value here and we have the confidence he will harness his potential into developing into the player we know he can be.”
Missimo, 23, joins the Union from Northwestern University. He was the third overall selection in the fourth round of the SuperDraft after spending four years with the Wildcats. During his career at Northwestern, Missimo played 76 games and started 56, scoring seven goals and handing out 12 assists. In 2015, Missimo scored one goal and gave two assists and was named NSCAA Second Team All-Big Ten Conference for the second year in a row.
