With tonight's results, Philadelphia Union is headed to Ohio as they'll face off against FC Cincinnati on Tuesday, August 13th at 7:30PM in a Round of 16 matchup for the 2024 Leagues Cup.
The Boys in Blue are into the next round after getting past CF Montreal in a wet and windy contest at Subaru Park on Friday night that saw the Union emerge victorious. The Union finished top of East Group 4 after defeating Charlotte FC, 1-0, and battling powerhouse Cruz Azul to a 1-1 draw.
FC Cincinnati are the No. 3 overall seed in the tournament and are unbeaten thus far after picking up a penalty shootout win over Liga MX side Santos Laguna in the Round of 32 on Friday night. The Orange and Blue swept East 1 group play with wins over Queretaro and New York City FC.
Tuesday's contest will be the second meeting in 2024 between the two Eastern Conference foes. Philly and Cincinnati dueled to a seven goal shootout in the middle of June with the Ohio side grabbing a 4-3 win. Tai Baribo delivered his first two goals as a member of the Philadelphia Union but a late winner from FC Cincinnati's Luciano Acosta ended the Union’s unbeaten road form.
