With the conclusion of the Eastern Conference’s Decision Day matches, Philadelphia Union will face off against the New England Revolution in the 2023 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs Round One Best-of-3 series.
The Union are the No. 4 seed via the goal differential tiebreaker after they fell to New England, 2-1,  on the final day of the 2023 Major League Soccer regular season. The No. 4 spot sees the Boys in  earn home field advantage in MLS’s new playoff format. A top-four finish in your conference gains hosting rights for the first and third leg of the Round One Best-of-3 series (bear in mind the third leg is only played if necessary), and the higher seed will host in the single-leg format of the conference semifinals and finals. Philadelphia Union racked up 55 points during the 34-game campaign via a 15-9-10 record.
Philadelphia Union were led by the high scoring trio of Daniel Gazdag, Julian Carranza and Mikael Uhre who combined for 37 goals scored. Subaru Park was once again a fortress with the Union netting a 10-1-6 home record.
The Union and New England will keep battling one another with the potential or having four-straight matches should the first round go the distance. The Revolution finished the regular season with a 15-9-10 record but only 3-8-6 on the road. New England’s Spanish playmaker and team captain Carles Gil led the offense as he racked up 11 goals and 15 assists for the season. Gustavo Bou looks to build off his Decision Day form which saw the forward net a first-half brace and has scored five goals in eight career matches versus Philly.
Prior to their Decision Day clash, the Union knocked off the Revs back in May by a 3-0 margin led by a second-half brace from Gazdag and a memorable Chris Donovan to Carranza counter attack in the 88th minute.
