Union Yards was on full display Thursday afternoon, as the Philadelphia Union hosted members of the media, VIPs and more for a first look at the new brew hall and tailgate zone that officially opens on Saturday ahead of the team's match against Real Salt Lake.
Union radio play by play commentator Dave Leno served as host for the event, with remarks given by Philadelphia Union President Tim McDermott, Mayor of Chester Stefan Roots, Director of Brand & Regional Marketing at The GIANT Company Kimberly Mack, and Brewery Representative at Boston Beer Company George Belaires.
Philadelphia Union Head Coach Jim Curtin joined the group for a ceremonial first pour at the ‘Dogfish Head Bar at Union Yards’, officially opening the bar's 20 taps.
In addition to the 50-foot full bar, the Union's first team officially etched their names in the ‘GIANT Boot Room at Union Yards’ which features a wall of cleats signed by Union players, legends, and VIPs. The 1,300-square-foot private space is available for groups to rent out pre- or post-game featuring multiple televisions, communal seating, indoor/outdoor seating, and Union memorabilia throughout.
Outside, the ‘GIANT Tailgate at Union Yards’ was in full swing with tailgate games, lounge seating and firepits with string lights overhead and trees throughout. Those in attendence got to sample the full menu from the grill highlighted by The Yard Burger which features two smashed patties with cooper sharp american cheese, white onion, aioli, topped with onion rings and served on a potato bun.
In conjuction with the grand opening of Union Yards on Saturday, Philadelphia Union Ring of Honoree Sebastien Le Toux will serve as a guest bartender between 4:30 and 5:30PM.
Located at 12 Reaney St., across from the Sons of Ben tailgate lot, Union Yards will open at 4PM to all fans with the ‘Dogfish Head Bar at Union Yards’ offering $5 Dogfish Head Drafts between 4-6PM. The brew hall features a 50-foot full bar serving 20 beers on tap as well as wine, liquor, and soft drinks. The 4,000-square-foot main hall includes a rustic brick façade, nine clear glass garage doors, 15-foot ceiling fans, nine rows of communal tables, and 10 big screen TVs showing games across Major League Soccer as well as all Philly sporting events.
