With a record of 1-0-2 during the Tampa Bay Rowdies’ preseason tournament, the Philadelphia Union will play their final preseason match on Saturday, Feb. 27 against Toronto FC at 4 p.m. in Al Lang Stadium. The game will be broadcasted live from www.philadelphiaunion.com/live.
After a 1-1 tie against D.C. United, the 2-0 victory against Tampa Bay Rowdies and the 0-0 draw against New York Red Bulls, the Union look to finish the tournament on a strong note.
The Toronto FC and the Union met three times last season with Toronto getting all three victories. In the Suncoast Invitational Tournament, Toronto tied 1-1 with Montreal Impact on Wednesday night.
At practice today at Joe DiMaggio Sports Complex in Clearwater, Fla., the last practice of the preseason, the team warmed up with monkey in the middle before moving into relay races.
The team split up into three teams and had to move together keeping the ball in the air with their heads. After reaching a certain point, the team then had to lob the ball into a trashcan and run back to the starting point.
The practice then moved to small-sided scrimmage games in which the three teams competed again. The practice finished with shots on goal. The keepers looked sharp during this drill, as they blocked several shots coming at them.
The Union will participate in a scrimmage tomorrow morning against Montreal Impact with two 30-minute halves.
