Major League Soccer announced on Sunday evening that Philadelphia Union's Eastern Conference Semifinal at FC Cincinnati will take place on Saturday, November 25th at 8PM on MLS Season Pass.
The Union secured its third-straight trip to the Eastern Conference Semifinal via a First Round Sweep of the New England Revolution that saw the Boys in Blue defend their home field with a 3-1 victory which was followed up by a 1-0 road win to complete the sweep.
FC Cincinnati and Philadelphia Union met last year in the Eastern Conference Semifinal with Subaru Park the venue for the affair. It was a back-and-forth battle between the two foes which went the Union's way behind a Leon Flach game-winning goal in the 59th minute while Andre Blake four saves in the final half.
The Union and Cincinnati have squared off twice so far in 2023 with the opening match going the Ohio side's way by a 1-0 margin. While FC Cincinnati claimed the victory, they didn't get the Union's best squad as the team was preparing itself for Atlas FC in the Concacaf Champions League Quarterfinal four days later. Despite a rotated squad, Philly showcased its never quit attitude to hold strong but end up falling by a penalty kick goal late in the second half. The second contest saw the Boys in Blue jump out to a two-goal lead in the first half courtesy of goals from Jose Martinez and Daniel Gazdag. The top team in the league showed its promise in the second half with substitute Aaron Boupendza cutting the deficit in half only four minutes after play resumed and then Brandon Vazquez completed the comeback.
