Roster news: Blake out, Fabian and Santos progressing

Philadelphia Union enter their ninth match of the season missing two key veterans. Marco Fabián remains unlikely to face Vancouver as he recovers from an ankle sprain and Andre Blake is out of commission with a groin injury. Mark McKenzie continues to work toward a return from a recent appendectomy.

Another player that took a big step forward this week is Sergio Santos. The Brazilian resumed full training as he works to return to the pitch following a setback with a knee issue. With Cory Burke and David Accam already off the mark, Santos, Fafa Picault, and Kacper Przybylko are now all in the hunt for their first goal of the year.

In other injury news, Anthony Fontana and Ilsinho sustained slight knocks and are listed as questionable for Saturday’s match.

There is a single suspension for the Union: Kai Wagner will miss the showdown in Canada after he was awarded a red card against Montreal Impact on Saturday. The German left back has been, in Jim Curtin’s words, one of the best in MLS this season so one of Ray Gaddis, Matt Real, or Fabinho will have big shoes to fill.

The Union take on Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday, April 27 at 5 p.m. ET on PHL17.
