Chicago Fire FC II opened up the scoring in the 17th minute of play with a Victor Bezerra penalty kick conceded by Nathan Nkanji after a foul in the penalty area. In the 37th minute, Chinonso Offor scored on a left footed shot from a long range to take a 2-0 lead over Union II. In the second half, Cole Turner converted a penalty to cut the lead in half in the 51st minute. After Victor Bezerra was booked with a red card for consecutive yellow cards in the 52nd and 56th minute, Union II took advantage of the ejection with a Chris Donovan headed goal in the 57th minute, assisted by Boubacar Diallo. In the 72nd minute, Union II took the lead off a chipped goal from Chris Donovan. Chinonso Offor then scored his second goal of the match in the first minute of second half stoppage time to draw the score even at 3-3, sending the game to a shootout. In the post-regulation shootout, Chicago Fire FC II won 5-4 to earn an extra point over the Union II.
