After scoring twice to lead Philadelphia Union II to a road victory, forward Chris Donovan has been named the MLS NEXT Pro Player of Matchweek 10.
The brace was the 23-year-old's second of 2024 and was crucial to Union II's 3-1 victory over New England Revolution II. Donovan opened the scoring two minutes into the second half off a breakaway, as Giovanny Sequera booted the ball upfield toward Eddy Davis II who drew a pair of defenders. Surrounded by New England pressure, the Academy forward flicked the ball into the path of Donovan who ran toward the goal and slotted the ball inside the post for the 1-0 lead.
After New England Revolution II found an equalizer, the Boys in Blue reclaimed the lead for good in the 76th minute as CJ Olney delivered a cross from the left side of the attack to connect on a Donovan header to make it 2-1 for Philadelphia.
Union II continues its stretch of rivalry road contests next weekend as they take on New York Red Bulls II. Kick off from the MSU Soccer Park at Montclair State is set for 5PM ET with the match free for all on MLSNEXTPro.com.
