Post-Match Quote Sheet
Bethlehem Steel FC vs. New York Red Bulls II | July 10, 2019 – Talen Energy Stadium, Chester, Pa.
Bethlehem Steel FC
Forward Faris
On how his goal impacted the game . . .
That was teamwork. We did well playing balls right after they scored and it wasn’t easy for us because there was a great team in [New York] Red Bulls [II] tonight and the goal it was a personal goal. I thought I had to turn and go and score. That made the game difficult for them and we were able to push before the halftime and I think that was great teamwork before the half.
On what he thought of Issa Rayyan’s performance and playing alongside him . . .
Yeah, there was good communication between us since the beginning of the week, since we started practicing. [Brendan Burke] told me I was going to play with him, so I had to talk to him because I used to speak with Michee [Ngalina] before games and we were able to combine. Great performance from Issa [Rayyan] tonight, he scored two goals and put us in front and then sad night for us at the end.
On how New York Red Bull II were able to get back into the game . . .
I think the reaction after their goal from us. We were sleepy and it has to be better. You know, there will always be things like that in games and we have to play ninety minutes. We just can’t stay. We scored three goals and then we start chilling. It has to be ninety.
Midfielder Issa Rayyan
On his goals tonight . . .
It was similar to Duke [University], it took me a few games. I also started out playing right wing back and here I started playing right back as well. Playing up top I got my first goal and then now I think I just got momentum. First half was a little bit shaky, I wasn’t on the ball too much. Second half started, and we talked over some things during half time and me and Faris wanted to stay close together. I got the ball in the midfield, Faris made that run, opened up space, and I was able to take a touch and put it in the corner.
On scoring goals in different positions . . .
It’s a different role; I didn’t mind playing right back as well. It’s just different; I’ll play wherever they need me. Today was playing striker so my job was to score goals and it feels good to get two goals today. We didn’t get the result that we wanted, so it doesn’t really feel like too much honestly.
On his second goal . . .
I honestly don’t remember it too much. I just remember it was like a shot, then it deflected out, and then Matt [Real] hit it back in and then it came right to me. I just focused on making contact with the ball and I just aimed for the corner.
