Philadelphia Union II continued play in MLS NEXT Pro with a 2-1 loss against Rochester New York FC on Sunday afternoon at Subaru Park. With the loss, Union II drop to fourth place in the Eastern Conference with 34 points.
The Union faced a barrage of chances in the first half, with goalkeeper Matt Freese making a crucial save in the 9th minute to keep things level. In the 11th minute, Union II was awarded a free kick from outside the box. Homegrown defender Brandan Craig took a powerful shot, but the keeper managed to get his fingertips on it. Union II created the bulk of chances in the first half, outshooting Rochester eight to six, but couldn’t find the back of the net. Just before halftime, Rochester midfielder Wilterlynd Inalien found the back of the net in the 44th minute.
In the second half, Homegrown midfielder Paxten Aaronson found forward Chris Donovan to equalize in the 42nd minute. An unlucky deflection saw Rochester’s Edward Williams score the game winner in stoppage time.
