Philadelphia Union II continued play in MLS NEXT Pro with a 3-0 loss against Rochester New York FC on Saturday night at Monroe Community College. Rochester’s Pedro Dolabella opened the scoring in the 33rd minute with a shot from the center of the box to the bottom right corner to put Rochester in the lead.
The first half of play was equally controlled by both teams, with both sides creating chances. Goalkeeper Brooks Thompson made a crucial save early in the 6th minute to deny a goal scoring opportunity for Rochester.
In the second half, Rochester went down to ten men after Jacob Akanyirige received his second yellow card caution. In the 62nd minute, Rochester was awarded a penalty kick, converted by forward Gibran Rayo. In the 91st minute, Pedro Dolabella scored the third goal of the game to make it 3-0.
Union II outshot Rochester 15 to seven, but couldn’t find the back of the net. With the loss, Union II remain in second place in the Eastern Conference with 15 points.
