Philadelphia Union Academy showcased its defensive prowess in the opening day of the 2023 Generation adidas Cup in Bradenton, Fla., picking up a pair of wins and shutouts.
The U15s opened their tournament with a 2-0 victory over Inter Miami CF. Displaying brilliant defense, the U15s picked up the shutout in Union fashion with the offense getting an early lead from Anisse Saidi. With the opposition pushing for an equalizer, the Union's counter attack struck with Jordan Griffin doubling the Union's advantage for three points to open the Group Stage.
Looking to add to their trophy cabinet, the Philadelphia Union Academy U17 started its Group Stage with a 1-0 victory over the Houston Dynamo on Saturday afternoon in Bradenton, Florida. U.S. Youth National Team forward David Vazquez provided the offense in the first 30 minute period with a solid strike to put the Boys in Blue ahead going into the halftime break. That goal would be the difference as the Boys in Blue locked down defensively to open their run in the 2023 GA Cup with a clean sheet.
Both teams are back in action on Sunday with the U15s taking on Sporting Kansas City at 10 a.m. ET followed by the U17s who'll face Minnesota United at 2 p.m. ET. For live coverage from GA Cup, be sure to follow Philadelphia Union Academy on Twitter.
