For the second straight season it'll be the Philadelphia Union Academy playing in the MLS NEXT Cup Final with a gritty 2-1 winning performance against LAFC on Friday night in Frisco, Texas.
The U17s secured their spot with the opening goal from Alex Perez. The California side fought back to equalize in the second half but Marcos Zambrano would bag the match winner to send the Boys in Blue into the championship match.
The Union will face off against the Columbus Crew who advanced the final with a penalty kick win over Orlando City. The Crew's path to the final has been something special with the Ohio side advancing via penalty kicks in every single match of the tournament. Their run began with shootout wins against Sacrament Republic and Atlanta United FC before getting past FC Delco 5-4 in penalties in the Quarterfinals.
