The younger squads at the Philadelphia Union Academy continued their strong run for play in MLS NEXT competition on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Cedar Stars Academy of Monmouth in shut out fashion.
The U13s racked up the largest win of the afternoon with a 6-0 road win. Playing in hot temperatures, the Boys in Blue were on fire on the offensive side of the pitch with Peter Doran racking up a hat trick. Using the counter attack to perfection with strong passes between the opposition's defensive lives, the Union were able to create countless goal opportunities. Gunnar Graham added a brace in the win while Jordan Griffin rounded out scoring for the U13s.
In the U14s matchup, the Union were faced with the hosts test of a deep defensive block but it was no contest as goals from Kellan LeBlanc and Andrew Craig were enough for the 2-0 win. Taking some time to adjust to CSA's gameplan and the heat, the Boys in Blue grew into the contest at time wore on. The second half saw improved intensity according to the Union staff and with it came plenty of chances to add to the scoreline.
Both sides return to MLS NEXT play this weekend when they host Bethesda SC on Saturday, June 12th, at YSC Sports. The U14s are scheduled to kick off at 2 p.m. ET with the U143s following up at 4 p.m.
