While the U17s and U15s were competing in the Generation adidas Cup in Bradenton, Fla., Philadelphia Union Academy’s U14 and U13 squads were at home this weekend and cruised to a victories over the PA Classics on Saturday.
The 14s hit the ground running from the opening minutes en route to a 5-0 victory at YSC Sports in Wayne. As the rain was pouring down at the early stages of the match, so was the Union’s attack with goals from Lewis Dawley, Michael Dubuclet (twice), Collin Fulham and Declan Lannon. After taking a three-goal lead into halftime, the Baby Snakes continued to cruise in the game as they were able to add two more goals in the second half to make the match even more out of reach. Overall, it was an impressive effort for Phil Karn’s side on both ends of the pitch as they increased their winning streak to three.
Meanwhile, the 13s dominated PA Classics in a 7-0 victory Willy Topp’s side scoring four of their seven goal from set piece opportunities. Three of the goals from free kick chances while they cashed in on a corner kick chance as well. Hayes Cooney led the offense with a brace in the contest with Daniel Sullivan, Sean Corbett, Liam Holtzman, Miles Smith and Timoni Gbalajobi all collecting goals too. The squad also stood their ground on the defensive side, frustrating the visitors in a clean sheet effort. It was a much-needed three points, having suffered a 1-0 loss in their previous matchup at the Baltimore Armour.
After an astonishing performance on both sides of the ball for the squads, they will have next weekend off before hitting the road to take on Springfield SYC on Sunday, April 16. The 14s will play at 1 p.m. ET while the 13s have their match at 3 p.m. ET.
