30 for 3/2 Day 15: Sons of Ben

30for3/2

One of the best things about Philadelphia Union matches at Talen Energy Stadium is the energetic and chanting crowds in the River End. The home of the Sons of Ben, the supporter's group has been a staple of the Union before the club was even founded in 2008.

Founded in 2007 as a non-profit organization, Sons of Ben started with the goal of making a thriving soccer community in the Delaware Valley but eventually, their goals focused on one item. To bring a Major League Soccer franchise to Philadelphia.

Sons of Ben were able to show MLS commissioner Don Garber and the rest of the Expansion Committee that Philadelphia had an established soccer fan base.

With that being said, Sons of Ben were a big reason why MLS decided to come to Philadelphia.

Philanthropy and giving back is also a big part of Sons of Ben mission and they help wherever they can. Besides holding collection drives, fundraisers or volunteering, Sons of Ben raised thousands over dollars through their Help Kick Hunger campaigns in support of the Bernadine Center in Chester.

Come game time, Sons of Ben members bring the energy to Talen Energy Stadium and showcase their handcrafted and unique tifo prior to kick off.

Throughout the game, the members wave flags and sing all game long. Some of the notable Sons of Ben chants include Four Leaf Clover (sung at 20:10), We Love Ya and the popularly known “Philadelphia Chant.”
