Philadelphia Union's homegrowns have been on full display the last few weeks during the club's strong run of form lately with the group scoring goals and creating chances. Center back Mark McKenzie has been consistent on the backline for the Boys in Blue but he had a breakout performance on the other side of the pitch picking up not one but two assists to mark his first ones in his young MLS career.
Making his 35th career start, McKenzie played a perfectly weighted ball into wide open space for fellow homegrown Brenden Aaronson in first-half stoppage time and it ended with Kacper Przybylko's winning strike. With the assist, McKenzie became the sixth Union homegrown player to collect an assist joining Zach Pfeffer, Auston Trusty, Anthony Fontana, Matt Real and Aaronson.
McKenzie wasn't done for the night as he had the crucial touches in the 65th minute goal that led up to Fontana's third goal in two matches. Olivier Mbaizo floated a cross into the box and the Bear, Delaware native knocked it down into the box before flicking a backheeled pass toward Fontana for the rocket.
