After providing a unmatched veteran presence and leading the Philadelphia Union to their second straight win and clean sheet, Jakob Glesnes and Andre Blake have earned MLS Team of the Matchday honors, the league announced Monday.
Glesnes, the team’s 31-year-old centerback, made an impact on both ends of the field, netting his first golazo of 2025 to open scoring at Subaru Park.
In the 15th minute, Glesnes capitalized on a Union restart beginning with a throw-in from Frankie Westfield. The Homegrown first tossed the ball in toward Indiana Vassilev, who passed it back to Westfield for a beautiful service into the box, where Glesnes was waiting for a powerful volley finish. His one-touch goal, which is up for MLS Goal of the Week honors, helped settle his team into the match that finished with a 3-0 scoreline for the second week in a row.
Blake, who captains the team alongside Glesnes, also appeared in Major League Soccer's Team of the Matchday, securing a spot on the bench after making five saves against the side from the Capitol.
Just one week after earning his 100th career clean sheet, the three-time MLS Goalkeeper of the Year became the second fastest player to reach 80 regular season shutouts in league history.
The pair, along with the rest of their team, will enter a busy May schedule of games starting on Saturday against C.F. Montreal at Stade Saputo. It all goes down at 7:30 PM in Canada -- tune in for all the action with MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
